Timeline
Fall 2013 - Fall 2014

Located at the core of the UMass campus, the Lincoln Campus Center (LCC) serves as a central activity hub for students and visitors. In 2015, the LCC concourse space was renovated with new equipment, lighting, and finishes to update the existing facility. The redesign puts cooking on display with ten unique retail dining experiences and flexible seating, all in a 32,000 S.F. open concept plan.

Together, through renovations to the Blue Wall, the adjacent Harvest Market, and a brand new study space, the LCC concourse renovation has created an urban marketplace model for the next generation of campus dining.

The project team has capitalized on the building’s existing location, enhancing campus connectivity and services. The LCC has quickly become a favorite destination for students and guests alike, with an estimated 7,500 meals served daily.

SUSTAINABLE FEATURES

Sustainable Sites

  • The building is serviced regularly by the PVTA bus system and located within a quarter mile of basic community services including a park, museum, and fitness center
  • Bicycle racks are located at main entrances in effort to reduce automobile dependence
  • Discounted parking is provided for low-efficient and fuel-efficient vehicles, along with several employee incentive programs available to those who use alternative transportation

Water Efficiency

  • The project reduced the concourse potable water use by more than 20%.

Energy & Atmosphere

  • The project reduced lighting loads by 38% through the installation of LED fixtures, individual daylighting controls, and Energy Star-rated equipment

Materials & Resources

  • 93% of on-site generated construction wastes were diverted from landfill
  • 18% of new construction materials utilized recycled content. 24% of building materials were extracted and manufactured within 500 miles of the project site
  • Real Food Campus Program provides composting and recycling for the project’s top three waste streams

Indoor Environmental Air Quality

  • Low-VOC emitting interior finishes and furnishings, pollutant-collecting floor matts, and HVAC filters all act to ensure the health and safety of building occupants
  • Live olive trees planted throughout the facility clean the air and enhance the dining experience
  • Air ventilation rates to all occupied spaces were increased by 30% above the minimum required
  • Indoor Air Quality Management Plans were implemented during construction and before occupancy to promote the comfort and well-being of workers and visitors
  • Thermal comfort controls allow employees to make adjustments to best suit their needs and preferences. A thermal comfort survey was administered to all building occupants following project completion

Innovation In Design

  • Developed a Campus Real Food Program strategy. A minimum 20% of campus food is purchased from ecologically sustainable, humane, and socially equitable sources
  • Green Housekeeping program
  • Implemented a Comprehensive Transportation Management Plan
