David Browne, L.I.C.S.W.

Position at CCPH: Clinical Social Worker

First Year at UMass: 2009

My Approach: What works for one person may be totally different from what helps for someone else. Because of this, the therapy I offer is custom-tailored to fit the needs and goals of the individual and draws on tools and techniques from many schools of therapy. The general framework I use during therapy is called TEAM Therapy and was developed by Dr. David Burns. You can more information about it here.

The first goal of our work together is feeling better – whether that involves developing closer relationships, having more self-confidence/self-compassion, or stopping unwanted habits/addictions. Along the way you will also develop a clearer understanding of why you have struggled with those problems in the first place. The second goal is to master relapse prevention techniques, so that when you inevitably fall into a black hole of misery, you can climb out again quickly and experience joy again. That is called getting better.

Education: M.S.W., Smith School for Social Work, Northampton, MA, 2010; B.A., University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA, 2005.

Certifications/Licenses: Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Level 2 TEAM Therapist.
