About

Clinical Interests: Equipped with my training as a general practitioner, I help my students deal with a variety of issues, including adjustments, relationship issues, identity crises, academic problems, and developmental concerns (e.g., traumas). I intend to create a comfortable and safe space where students can talk about their concerns while maintaining professional boundaries. My students often present anxiety and depression symptoms triggered by multiple life stressors and exacerbated by their inner critics and conflicts. Over the years, through my clinical and research experiences, I have developed an integrative approach to helping students deal with their stresses and accept themselves through therapeutic dialogues and analyses. I am interested in working with students from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Education: PhD, University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee (2009)

Professional Experiences:

  • Founder and director of the EQ Counseling Center
  • Practicum student at Ozaukee Community Center, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh
  • Healthcare for the Homeless of Milwaukee
  • Licensed counseling psychologist and supervisor at National Tsing Hua University
  • Predoctoral intern at the University of California, Berkeley

Clinical Research and Program Development: In collaboration with his research teams, I have published several research papers in multicultural counseling, vocational psychology, and cross-cultural adjustments. Building on my recent clinical research, I published a book in Chinese, titled “Complex PTSD: Difficulties and New Integrative Approaches.” Using trauma-informed therapy, I can develop valuable insights into how early types of traumas could influence students’ psychological functioning and how these students could be helped more effectively. I am impressed with how humans adapt to life’s challenges while working towards their goals.

More about Me: I have a positive view of the benefits of counseling and psychotherapy based on my own experiences of being healed as a doctoral student in Wisconsin. Thus, I am deeply committed to using my knowledge and skills to provide effective treatment to my students. In addition, I often start my day with meditation and feel rejuvenated when surrounded by nature. Coming from Taiwan, part of East Asia, I have appreciated the learning opportunities I have had in visiting historical sites such as the Great Wall in Beijing, the Colosseum in Rome, and the Borobudur in central Java. I offer counseling in English, Mandarin, and Taiwanese.
