ABIGAIL LEWIS is a junior studying Comparative Literature and Sociology. She will be studying in Seville, Spain next semester to deepen her work in the Comparative Literature major through intensive study of the Spanish language.
EMILY BARBER is a second-year PhD student in Comparative Literature whose research centers on questions of feminist solidarity and postcolonial resistance in Anglo- and Lusophone-African literature. She’ll be traveling to South Africa and Mozambique next summer. During her time abroad, she hopes to study African languages and improve her grasp of Mozambican Portuguese.
MICHAEL KOWALCHUK is a fifth-year PhD candidate in Comparative Literature. His dissertation focuses on interactions between queer intellectuals and the communist movement in postwar Europe, the United States, and Chile. Michael will be studying Polish in Krakow to reconnect with his roots and research the current political environment in post-communist (and post-gay?) Poland.
Please join us in congratulating these wonderful students and wishing them well in their travels and studies!
