UMACC is an open charitable giving campaign, so you are not limited to a preset list of nonprofits. Any eligible 501(c)(3) organization listed in the Candid nonprofit database can receive your gift. There are more than one million eligible nonprofits.
You can support one nonprofit or several, and you decide how to divide your gift among them. Give $1, $5, or $10 per paycheck — or choose an amount that works for you.
Your gift supports
- The causes you care about: Choose the organizations and communities that matter to you.
- One or multiple nonprofits: Support as many organizations as you want through a single gift.
- The amount that works for you: Give a few dollars per paycheck or make a larger contribution.

Every Gift Counts
UMACC is about participation, not the size of your gift. You don’t need to make a large donation to participate. A few dollars from each paycheck can add up over the course of a year.

Why do you give?
"When I was in elementary school, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was raising [me and my four siblings] on her own in Los Angeles. We had no money, no tree, and no gifts. The American Cancer Society brought us food and gifts…That Christmas, someone saw us when we felt unseen. An organization that did not know us showed us we were important. We felt cared for. We felt like we belonged. My mother, Lupita, is 77 now. She is a fighter and my role model, and she is thriving. Along with the American Cancer Society, multiple nonprofits helped carry our family through those difficult years. I would not be where I am now without that support."
Where Your Donation Goes
UMACC is administered by CHC: Creating Healthier Communities, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that processes every pledge, distributes monthly payments to participating nonprofits, issues tax receipts, and reconciles the campaign at the end of the year.
100% of what you give goes to nonprofit organizations. 94% of your gift goes to the organization(s) you choose. The remaining 6% covers campaign administration through CHC. UMass does not retain any portion of your donation.
Why choose UMACC instead of giving directly to a nonprofit?
A direct donation on a nonprofit's website typically costs them 4% to 11% in platform and credit card fees. With UMACC, nonprofits also save the cost of finding first-time donors and renewing existing donors. Around 80% of UMACC donors give again the following year (compared to an average of 43% across the nonprofit sector). In addition, people who give through workplace giving campaigns tend to give more money because payroll deduction allows them to spread their gift throughout the year. Giving through UMACC helps your chosen nonprofits raise funds efficiently, with minimal fees.
