Comm Professor Selected as CESL Fellow

Weiai (Wayne) Xu

Assistant Professor Weiai (Wayne) Xu has been selected as a Civic Engagement and Service Learning (CESL) Fellow for the 2020-21 academic year.

The CESL Faculty Fellows program is designed to help faculty members implement a high impact, engaged pedagogy that involves students in community-based learning, linked to their course goals, as an integral part of the faculty learning experience.

Xu and other fellows will integrate classroom learning with community-based learning. The CESL faculty fellows group meets over the course of the year, to discuss community engagement for social change, service-learning pedagogy, and to work collaboratively on course development.

Xu said he hopes to convert his course, COMM497DB Survey of Digital Behavioral Data, into a community service class allowing students to apply data analytic skills to help local nonprofits.
