EJ Nielsen is a PhD Candidate at UMass Amherst studying media, fans, and monstrosity. They hold an MFA in Studio Art (printmaking) from New Mexico State University.


Fan studies, digital media, material fan culture, monster theory, gender/sexuality studies


Recent publications include “The Iconography of Fanart” in Fan Studies: Methods, Research, Ethics (forthcoming), co-editing Becoming: Genre, Queerness, and Transformation in NBC’s Hannibal (2018), and a chapter in Queerbaiting and Fandom: Teasing Fans through Homoerotic Possibilities (2020). EJ has published articles in Quarterly Review of Film and Video, Somatechnics, Transformative Works and Cultures, and the Journal of Fandom Studies.
