New Students
Welcome to UMass and the Department of Communication!
Your first step as a new student is to register for and participate in New Student Orientation & Transitions (NSOT) and start regularly checking your UMass email. You will then be able to schedule an advising appointment and enroll in courses.

College of Social and Behavioral Sciences
The Communication major is housed in the College of Social and Behavior Sciences (SBS). During your time at UMass you will utilize many resources provided by the SBS Pathways Center including career & professional development advising and seeking support from academic deans.
International Students
International students should visit the International Student Orientation (ISO) website for information on maintaing student visas, obtaining a social security number and other documents and regulations.

The Amherst Chamber of Commerce has a web page designed especially for people new to the area. There is information on local restaurants, shopping, housing, and recreation, as well as maps.
