Comm Professor's new book investigates eccentrics who helped shape New England

Associate Professor Stephen Olbrys Gencarella, Ph.D., has released a new book Wicked Weird & Wily Yankees, which explores and celebrates the eccentric personalities who left a mark on New England’s history. The book, which which has been reviewed by Connecticut Magazine, stretches back to the colonial era and covers the development and evolution of New England society through the beginning of the twenty-first century. According to the book summary, “some folks are known, others not so much, but the motley cast of characters that emerges from these pages represents a fascinating cross-section of New England’s most peculiar denizens.” 

Gencarella is an associate professor who’s research explores folklore studies, rhetorical studies, and performance studies. He is also the resident folklorist for the Connecticut River Museum in Essex, Connecticut. All royalties will be donated to the education and youth programs at the Connecticut River Museum
