The first week of March is jam-packed with events, talks and deadlines so let us guide you through some of the highlights of the week!
This Friday March 1st has South African journalist Azad Essa presenting “Geopolitical Crossroads: Unraveling the India-Israel Alliance with Azad Essa” in the COMM HUB (ILC N301) at 11am. Essa will delve into a critical, intellectual examination of the India-Israel alliance, exploring its global implications and impact on regions like Kashmir and Palestine.
On Monday the 4th we have David Stamps in the COMM HUB at 10am with his talk: “Digital Natives to the Rescue: Digital Inclusion, Relational Dynamics, and Digital Literacy”. Dr. Stamps will discuss a series of projects that address the role of digital natives, young tech-savvy digital media users, and their often-unacknowledged work of increasing digital literacy skills among familial ties. This work notes distinct relational dynamics and individual emotional outcomes associated with imparting digital literacy skills.
As part of the graduate seminar on Stuart Hall and the Roots of Cultural Studies in the Spring 2024 semester, the Department of Communication will host a series of masterclasses, each focused on a single, significant work produced at the Center for Critical Cultural Studies (CCCS) at the University of Birmingham UK during Stuart Hall’s directorship of the Center. This series kicks off on Tuesday, March 5, in the COMM HUB at 12:15pm, with Prof. Laurie Ouellette, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and editor of Television and New Media. She will conduct a Professionalization Workshop on Publishing and Peer Review and a masterclass in Feminist Cultural Studies.
Tuesday afternoon at 5:30pm in ILC S350 is the annual Department of Communication Marty Norden Alumni Career Event. Do some networking and explore your own post-graduation opportunities while you hear from departmental alums who have gone on to various careers and experiences after graduation. Guest panelists include: Kyle Balis ‘21, Production Assistant/Editor, Film & Television Production; Patricia “Patty” Camerota ‘17, Associate Director, Social Media and Influencer Marketing, Media Cause; Jaleen Cornejo ‘22, Traffic Assistant, WHDH; Emma Dodi ‘17, Associate Brand Manager, Commercial Strategy; Sina Duncan ‘20, Human Resources Specialist, Amphenol Communications Solutions; and Janice Obudai, Business Analyst, CGI and master’s student in Public Relations and Corporate Communications, Georgetown University.

The SBS Scholarship deadline is March 1 which includes the SBS Award for Early Decision Summer Internship and the LeBovidge Undergraduate Research Award.
