Communication PhD student Ibukun Filani has contributed two chapters to "Humour Theory and Stylistic Inquiry" edited by Taiwo Oloruntoba-Oju (Professor in the Department of English at the University of Ilorin in Nigeria). This edited book brings together scholarly chapters on linguistic aspects of humour in literary and non-literary domains and contexts in different parts of the world. Filani contributed "The Linguistic Style of Nigerian Mediated Comedies in English"—which examines the linguistic code selection in Nigerian comedy skits—and "A Preliminary Sketch on Intertextuality in Nigerian Stand-Up Comedy" (with Catherine Olutoyin Williams) providing a preliminary analysis of the patterns of intertextuality in Nigerian stand-up comedy performances. The book will be of interest to academics and students of Linguistics, Stylistics, Communications and Media Studies, and Humour Studies.
