“I was very excited when I found out that I had received the scholarship and immediately told my family,” Madison says about her initial reaction to being awarded the Lynch scholarship. “This scholarship means that I don’t have to worry too heavily about my financial situation, and I can spend more time focusing on my studies.”
The Lynch Scholarship is awarded to undergraduates with exceptional academic achievements and a passion for the study of communication. Madison fits the profile perfectly, with her love for interpersonal connections and a strong interest in writing, which led her to major in Communication.
As a Massachusetts native, Madison ultimately chose UMass because it was the perfect distance from home, and because she thinks “Amherst is truly breathtaking.” She spent most of her formative years in Stoneham, Massachusetts and has always loved the creative arts, including reading, writing, music, singing, and dancing.
Madison is currently pursuing a double major in Communication and Journalism with a concentration in Public Relations. She aspires to work for a PR firm in the future and loves the space for creativity in her work.
The Communication department has been “beyond helpful” in fostering Madison’s success academically and professionally.
“I have made so many meaningful connections and expanded my knowledge in ways I never expected,” Madison says.
Starting her senior year at UMass, Madison is interested in continuing to pursue a future in public relations and marketing.
“Communication has helped me shape my future by giving me all of the necessary tools to enter the next stage of my professional life confidently.”
