Why did you choose to study abroad?

I chose to study abroad to fully immerse myself in another culture. I wanted to integrate myself in the Spaniard way of living, whether that meant the social or family life. Ultimately I desired to understand another way of life.

What was the most challenging part of being in another country?

The most challenging part about being in another country was not being familiar with the area at first. I was completely out of my element, but my host family did their best to show me around and make me feel comfortable.

What memorable experiences did you have while studying abroad?

My most memorable experience while studying abroad was marching in a student run protest around the city of Seville. It was empowering to see students join together and try to make changes in their education system.

What do you think is the most important thing for students who choose to study abroad to prepare before they leave?

I think the most important thing for students who choose to study abroad to prepare for are cultural differences. In many cultures there is no such thing as personal space or privacy for that matter. It was completely normal for people to hug and kiss me when meeting me for the first time and that was something I was personally taken aback by at first. After a while I got used to it and then it became something I did naturally when meeting others.

What other comments would you like to make about your experience abroad?

At first it is very difficult to think that you are so far away from the people you love, but being abroad is all about personal growth. It is your time to reflect on your life experiences and build memories that will last you a lifetime. I would not trade my experience abroad for the world.
