Welcome to the Media Literacy Certificate Program, offered by the Department of Communication at UMass Amherst. This program has grown from the clear desire on the part of undergraduate students across the university to have greater access to, and learning of, media literacy. Intimately connected to the University’s pursuit of greater community engagement and service learning, the undergraduate Certificate in Media Literacy provides opportunities for students to work directly in their communities and enhance their professional and intellectual skills.

The Department of Communication at UMass Amherst is a national leader in media literacy education. With multiple faculty working across a broad range of media studies, comprehensive media literacy education is a hallmark of our department. Our ability to provide this unique program will enhance the experience of our majors as well as the experience of students across the university.
