Upward Bound Staff

Bridget Hynes, Ph.D.

Dr. Bridget Hynes has worked at the Upward Bound Program at UMass Amherst since 2013, where she has been instrumental in helping young people identify the college path that is best for them ---and then succeed upon it! Her career has centered on children and youth rights, and access to education for youth from diverse backgrounds. She has worked to provide educational opportunities and human rights protections for children and youth in Guatemala, South Africa, Namibia, Angola, Denver, CO, greater New England, and now, through Upward Bound, in Springfield, Mass. Her employers have included LARASA, the Colorado Foundation for Families and Children, and the Asperger’s and Autism Network of New England. She also owned and managed Organizational Outcomes, a non-profit consulting firm focused on impact assessments and organizational development.

In addition, Bridget was a visiting faculty member in International Politics and Development at Marlboro College and an Instructor at the Korbel School of International Studies at University of Denver. The courses she taught focused on social justice and conflict transformation for marginalized groups, especially children and youth, in the U. S. and overseas. Among other academic qualifications, she holds a PhD from the University of Denver, and an MA from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Public Affairs.
