Our Web Writer, Olivia Laramie, was selected as one of only ten recipients for the Gerald F. Scanlon Student Employee of the Year award for the 2016-2017 school year. Laramie is a rising senior double majoring in Journalism and Anthropology. Her work for us at the Center for Multicultural Advancement and Student Success (CMASS) include writing articles about various cultural events in the five college area, creating spotlight videos highlighting successful students on the UMass Amherst campus, and writing "Thoughts by Olivia Laramie" for our CMASS Weekly Bulletin.
The awards ceremony took place at the newly renovated Old Chapel at UMass Amherst. With Chancellor Kumble Subaswammy and other University officials in attendance, Laramie's award was presented by Vice Chancellor Enku Gelaye.

Laramie is a goal oriented, result driven, highly motivated and dependable young woman. She has charged through her job assignments with grace. During her sophomore year, Laramie helped us produce a live broadcast of the CMASS Case Study Competition via UVCTV 19.
Laramie is a wonderful writer but her voice has never been louder than the reflection pieces she wrote for the CMASS weekly bulletin. She has offered a young mind’s perspective on how to care for others who are different than oneself and uphold the values of the community as an engaged citizen.
The intent of the Gerald F. Scanlon Student Employee of the Year Awards is to recognize and honor students who have demonstrated outstanding performance by contributing their time and/or skills to help UMass Amherst achieve its goals and objectives. This award served well to honor Laramie for her vast contributions to the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
