Nikkomo Celebration

Nikkomo is an annual winter gathering celebrated by some southern New England tribes. It originates from a traditional Narragansett give-away celebration.

The JWECC has traditionally celebrated Nikkomo by bringing together students, staff, faculty,and their families, and sharing food.. Food has been a central part of this event. This year giving away to others will be celebrated as well by encouraging participants to bring toiletries to stock a supply closet.

Monday, November 18th, 7:15 - 8:30pm JWECC- Josephine White Eagle Cultural Center (Chadbourne Hall) Join us for an intracommunity conversation about how we are connected or disconnected to our Taino heritage across the Puerto Rican and Caribbean Diaspora. This is an opportunity and space to discuss your experiences, desires, needs, difficulties, or anxieties around claiming or re-discovering our relationships with Taino ancestry.

A. Web Writer for Spring 2020
Marketing and Publicity (work-study preferred)

The Web Writer will work with the Assistant Director for Administration, Publicity and Marketing to write content for the website (www.umass.edu/cmass), assist with building and maintaining social/digital presences as well as clerical duties as necessary. S/he will engage in producing content for the website as well as uphold the mission and vision of CMASS. This position offers opportunities to: practice multitasking, network with stakeholders across campus in accomplishing marketing goals, provide satisfactory customer service, practice interviewing, apply marketing skills and write multiple articles. Reappointment is dependent on department need, satisfactory performance evaluation, experience, academic standing and funding availability.

B.  CMASS Creative IT for Fall 2020

The Creative IT will work with the Assistant Director for Administration, Publicity and Marketing to support the publicity and marketing activities of CMASS.  S/he will engage in graphic design for posters and website; this individual will also produce, edit and launch videos, as well as uphold the mission and vision of CMASS. This position offers opportunities to: be creative, create content that can serve as portfolio pieces, gain understanding of building and maintain a brand from a technical perspective, manage deadlines and work in a team setting.  Reappointment is dependent on department need, satisfactory performance evaluation, experience, academic standing and funding availability.

C.  Social Media Content Developer for Spring 2020
Marketing and Publicity (Work-study preferred)

The Social Media Content Developer  will work with the Marketing, Publicity and Administration area of CMASS to:
1. Generate content on social media that is culturally relevant, educational and respectful of different perspectives.
2. Promote active two-way participation and maintain consistent presence of the four cultural centers on social media.
3. Assist in publicizing all events and information about the cultural centers (CC) on social media and day-to-day activities inclusive of creating, curating and managing all published content (images, video and written articles).

Craft Night: Halloween Edition October 30, 2019 from 6-8 PM Yuri Kochiyama Cultural Center Worcester DC, Lower Level  Northeast Residential Area Hosted by: YKCC & JWECC Celebrate the spooky season with the YKCC and JWECC for our second annual Halloween Craft Night! This year participants will be creating DIY garlands and reefs to decorate their dorms- just in time for the holiday! All materials and snacks will be provided.  YKCC Asian American Film Festival November 6, 7 and 8, 2019 (please check schedule below for locations) The Yuri Kochiyama Cultural Center is hosting Asian American Film Fest on campus for the 2nd year. Asian American filmmakers and an actor are invited to show their films and be on campus to discuss how they use their platforms to spread knowledge and awareness of different social and historical issues.  This year, the AAFF is exploring the intersections of Asian/Asian Am identity with the complexity of gender identities and orientations; there will be dialogue on the societal expectations with these identities.. Native Heritage Month Community Building Dinner

November is Native American Heritage Month, or as it is commonly referred to, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month.

The month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. Heritage Month is also an opportune time to educate the general public about tribes, to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges..

At UMass Amherst, the Josephine White Eagle Cultural Center celebrates Native Heritage Month by inviting students, staff, faculty and community members to come together and partake in a Community Building Dinner to celebrate identitties, identify common values and strengthen community.  Come, watch and listen to La Marea Vuelve, ouir guest performer.

The National Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month is the period from September 15 to October 15 in the United States, when people recognize the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the country's history, heritage and culture.
At UMass Amherst,  the Latinx American Cultural Center celebrates this occasion by inviting students, faculty, staff and the community to its annual Latinx Heritage Month Dinner to identify common values that promote collaboration and strengthen community.

After a hiatus last spring, the UMass Amazing Race is back. Registration begins August 26. A maximum of 45 teams will be confirmed to participate. Registration will remain open until capacity is reached.

2. Create a name for your team
3. Collect information about your team (names, emails, phone numbers, and t-shirt sizes)
