 Eric Poehler

Professor Eric Poehler, with support from his co-PI, Sebastian Heath (ISAW NYU) has been awarded a Digital Publications Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Poehler and Heath's book, Pompeii’s Artistic Landscape, will be built in the publishing technology Fulcrum and rooted in the data and tools of the Pompeii Artistic Landscape Project (PALP; http://palp.art). This publication will examine the long-held framework for understanding fresco art in the Pompeii (and beyond), as well as offering a series of new observations in related case studies. Poehler believes this publication will have significance not only in the fields of art history, classics, and classical archaeology for offering new frameworks for understanding Pompeian wall paintings, a body of evidence that defines the study of Roman painting more broadly, but also in the field of digital humanities for its innovative use of Linked Open Data, computational approaches, and unique visualizations.
