Eta Sigma Phi
Eta Sigma Phi is the national honor society for students of Latin, Greek, and/or Classics. The purposes of the society, in the words of its Constitution, are “to develop and promote interest in classical study among the students of colleges and universities; to promote closer relationships among student interested in such study; to engage generally in an effort to stimulate interest in classical studies, and in the history, art and literature of ancient Greece and Rome.”
As part of their efforts to promote Classics, students in our chapter of Eta Sigma Phi offer free tutoring in Latin, Greek, and various Classics courses, such as Greek mythology and Classical Archaeology. Online requests for free tutoring can be submitted via this link:
Students are eligible to join Eta Sigma Phi after earning a minimum grade of 'B' in at least one semester of Greek or Latin. The Classics Department holds an Eta Sigma Phi initiation ceremony and reception every spring.*
The Eta Sigma Phi faculty advisor for 2020-21 is Professor Melissa Mueller.
*Circumstances permitting. The Spring 2020 ceremony was unfortunately cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
