Eta Sigma Phi is the national honor society for students of Latin, Greek, and/or classics. The purposes of the society, in the words of its Constitution, are “to develop and promote interest in classical study among the students of colleges and universities; to promote closer relationships among student interested in such study; to engage generally in an effort to stimulate interest in classical studies, and in the history, art, and literature of ancient Greece and Rome.”
Students are eligible to join Eta Sigma Phi after earning a minimum grade of 'B' in at least one semester of Greek or Latin. The classics department holds an Eta Sigma Phi initiation ceremony and reception every spring.*
