Christina Yixiu Chen

After graduating, I returned to my home state of Minnesota and worked with CAPI USA to provide community engagement and civic education to refugees and immigrants. I then worked with the Community Education department of Minneapolis Public Schools where I managed an afterschool program for international baccalaureate students with a focus on socio-emotional learning and culturally responsiveness as well as piloted community outreach strategies in order to attract diverse students.

I currently manage the Open Door Learning Centers at Literacy MN, which focuses on providing adult education and family literacy services across the Twin Cities.

After returning to MN I also pursued a certificate in yoga instruction- RYT 200, in order to integrate my passions of mindfulness and holistic healing with education.  I have provided numerous trainings to educators and non-profits on ways to implement mindfulness practices with their students/ clients as well as working directly with community members and youth.

From 2018-2019 I served as a board member with the Sierra Leone Foundation for New Democracy that is committed to transforming exploitative relations through the implementation of permaculture, cooperative economics and an early childhood center in Dovalema, Sierra Leone. [2-21]
