Renuka is originally from South Africa. Before coming to CIE she was living in exile in East Africa where she continued her activism against the apartheid regime in South Africa.
While working on her dissertation at CIE Renuka spent time working for CIE on the Support for Uganda Primary Education Reform (SUPER) project, which was a sub-contract to Creative Associates International, Inc. (CAII). She was responsible for expanding the teacher development model throughout Uganda.
Her activities include planning and monitoring pre-service and in-service training activities for primary teacher colleges throughout Uganda, coordinating training for in-service cooperating center tutors, and coordinating efforts to build wider acceptance of Uganda’s universal primary education policy. She held the position of Institutional Organizational Development Advisor and later was the Acting Chief of Party.
While at CAII, Renuka was part of the team managing the BEPS project along with fellow CIE graduates with Margaret McLaughlin and Don Graybill.
After 2000, Renuka continued working for (CAII) in a variety of capacities, including as Chief of Party in Uganda (the REPLICA and UNITY projects) and Tanzania (TZ21), Project Director for Zambia (ZAMFAM), and as CAII’s East Africa Representative.
Renuka subsequently returned to Uganda to serve as the Performance Improvement Team Lead for the DFID-funded Strengthening Education Systems for Improved Learning (SESIL) project.
She passed away while still living and working Uganda.[3-19]
