CIE Project to Map Literacy Programs in 29 Countries (2018-2019)

CIE received a contract from the Global Alliance for Literacy, part of UNESCO’s Institute for Lifelong Learning in Hamburg, to conduct a youth and adult literacy mapping activity in 29 countries with the greatest numbers of young people and adults with low literacy skills.

New Business Associate Degrees Make Dreams Come True

In fall of 2017, three new Associate Degree programs were initiated. The new associate degrees in Business Administration and Business Accounting are located at the universities in Balkh, Herat, and Nangarhar provinces.  A total of 93 students (23 females) are now enrolled in these three programs. A total of 21 instructors have been identified and prepared to teach in these programs.

Education in Conflict & Crisis Network - CIE with EDC (2014-2019)

The USAID Education in Crisis and Conflict Network (USAID ECCN) is a community of practice composed of USAID education staff, implementing partners and others working to increase equitable access to, and improve the quality of, education in crisis and conflict affected environments. USAID ECCN was initiated to promote knowledge generation and sharing among practitioners, policy makers and researchers related to Goal 3 of the USAID Education Strategy: improved equitable access to education in crisis and conflict affected environments.

Valorisation de la Scolarisation de la Fille "VAS-Y Fille!" (2013-2016)

CIE assisted by the Center for Educational Assessment at UMass Amherst was contracted to provide evaluation services for Valorisation de la Scolarisation de la Fille (VAS-Y Fille) project to increase girls’ access to education in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Bjorn Nordtveit is the Prinicipal Investigator (PI), responsible for the qualitative analysis and Jennifer Randall is the CoPI, responsible for the quantitative analysis, of the project.

Study Tour of Senior Ministry Officials from Palestine (2013)

The Center for International Education (CIE) hosted a Study Tour for four senior level Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) officials from Palestine as part of the USAID-funded Leadership and Teacher Development (LTD) project, whose primary contractor is AMIDEAST.  The group was in Massachusetts for six days to ensure engagement and alignment across departments in the MOEHE to realize the goals of the Ministry’s Strategic Plan.

Palestine - Leadership and Teacher Development (2012-2014)

CIE was awarded a $1 million sub-contract from AMIDEAST, with USAID West Bank & Gaza funding, to help with the reform of teacher education in the West Bank and Gaza.  The project, Leadership and Teacher Development, is a comprehensive education reform initiative that supports the Ministry of Education's national effort in teacher development. The overall goal is to improve the quality of education through a comprehensive approach to leadership and teacher development, concentrating on in-service teachers in grades 5-10, principals, and supervisors, and the macro policy context.
