In her response to the award, Yi Sun said:

My research looks at cooperation in higher education between China and Africa. It examines how Chinese universities are interacting with Africa's rising economic development. I chose this topic because I believed that the new trends in international exchange can transfer knowledge in the global South, where the younger generations will be able to improve the quality of relations among developing countries, can work on a better approach to human capacity building, and thus create a more independent, inclusive and sustainable societies.
