Pempho Chinkondenji, a Ph.D. Student in International Education, has been awarded the Joyce A. Berkman Award for Outstanding Graduate Feminist Scholarship for her essay "(Un)making Schooling for Pregnant learners and Re-Integration of Student Mothers: The formation of Critical Afro-Feminist Education."
This prize is awarded annually by the UMass Amherst Department of Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies in honor of Joyce A. Berkman, feminist teacher, activist, History Department faculty member for 48 years, and co-founder of the WGSS Department.
