The Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) announced the 2023 winner of the society’s Outstanding Dissertation Award.  Pempho Chinkondenji received the award for her dissertation entitled “The Im/possibilities of (Un)making In-school Pregnancy and Student Motherhood [as Praxis]: Schooling Post-Pregnancy Amidst Health and Social Crises in Malawi.”

The Gail P. Kelly Dissertation Award is conferred for an outstanding doctoral dissertation that demonstrates academic excellence; originality; methodological, theoretical, and empirical rigor; and that deals with issues of social justice and equity in international settings. The recipient of the award is honored by being invited to make a presentation at the next Annual Meeting of the CIES and receives a $1000 award.
