Mariam Rashid was awarded the Ambassador Cynthia Shepard Perry Award for the 2019-2020 academic year. The award was established to provide support for graduate students in international education or affiliated with the Center for International Education to help them pursue international field work.
In her response to the award, Mariam said:
The integration and inclusion of refugees into local communities has been identified as a long-term solution to promoting inclusivity, and development among locals and refugee population. Coming from Kenya where refugees from the Horn of Africa have been isolated in camps for decades, my research examines: the benefits of refugee integration and inclusion within local education systems; the comparative study of refugee identity and culture; and the connections between gender, and education.
