Mukul Acharya is currently working in academic affairs at Kean University. He provides leadership and support of Kean’s accreditation and assessment. Institutional accreditation has been his major focus for a year and will continue to be a significant priority for another year and a half as Kean is currently undergoing its self-study, a requirement for renewal of its accreditation with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
Guiding and supporting over 30 academic programs in their specialized professional accreditation is one of his responsibility areas. For example, Mukul worked with the administrators and faculty of the College of Education at Kean in securing full accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) last year. Systematic assessment and utilization of data for continuous improvement, especially in student learning, are key to maintaining accreditation.
He has been able to apply his educational training from his time at CIE, particularly in adult education, research, evaluation, and qualitative and quantitative methods in his work at the university and program levels.
Prior to working at Kean University, he was at Rutgers University for 7 years where he was the Assistant Director for Research and Assessment. Mukul moved to New Jersey to work at Rutgers in 2010 after completing his doctoral program.
Mukul came to the Center as a master’s student from Nepal. In Nepal, Mukul worked with other Center graduates, including David Walker and Keshab Thapaliya in adult literacy, microfinance and women’s empowerment. [3-21]
