Mary Comeau-Kronenwetter is currently a New Hampshire Humanities Scholar, doing research and lecturing on New Hampshire history.

 

In 2022 she published an historical fiction novel, Pauper Auction, which examines female economic and educational disempowerment in the New Nation period in New England. The book is available from Stone Fence Press.

 

Cover of Pauper ActionMary is active in sustainability and environmental education initiatives and is a Trustee and Ecology Scholarship Chair with the Eastman Charitable Foundation. In the field of environmental education, she also served as Director of Education at the Fells in the John Hay National Wildlife Refuge where she ran the college internship, youth, and lifelong learning programs aimed at creating environmental stewards and leaders.

 

Previously, as the Internship and Fellowship Director at the Tucker Foundation at Dartmouth College, Mary had the opportunity to train and send hundreds of students to service and development projects across the world and advised student groups such as Amnesty International. Mary invited CIE alums Mohamed Ibrahim Elgadi (Sudan), Tsoaledi Thobejane (South Africa), and Yasin Magan (Somalia) to speak at a series of events sponsored by the Dartmouth College War & Peace Studies program, Amnesty International Chapter, and the World Affairs Council. The theme of their presentations and roundtables was Torture: A Modern Day Plague.  

 

At the Graduate Language Studies Program at Southern NH University, Mary taught students from the King Abdullah Scholarship Program. In the area of K-12, Mary worked with international students through programs such as the Johns Hopkins Center for Gifted and Talented Youth and Cardigan Mountain School.

 

Before coming to CIE, Mary was working in adult basic and workplace education programs in Lawrence, Massachusetts with newcomer immigrants and refugees and volunteering at the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA).  Mary completed an M.A. in Applied Linguistics at UMass Boston as well as a teaching fellowship at Hefei University of Science and Technology in Hefei, Anhui, China. She was also a UMass Visiting Lecturer at Chukyo University in Nagoya, Japan. [1-24]
