I have been involved in education, primarily in middle schools, high schools and colleges, since the early 1980s: in Africa, Canada and here in the United States. I was one of the founding teachers of the Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School in Dorchester, Massachusetts. I served as a member of the instructional team and a teacher for multilingual classes.
Most of my experience as an educator, however - here in the U.S.A, has been as a Transitional Bilingual Educator for international English Language Learners. I have been a social studies, science and mathematics teacher for Boston Public Schools since 1996.
In 2013, I ended my contract with Boston Public schools in order to spend time furthering my research and writing skills.
Since 2014 I have been working with President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, advising him on international and national issues. I am also the chair of the Board of Trustees of the Samadoon International Foundation. The Samadoon Foundation is an NGO under the patronage of its Honorary President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed. The charity’s focus is development in Somalia, concentrating on its core objectives of social harmony, education and health. It uses the skills and talents of Somalis from the Diaspora who wish to make a positive contribution to Somalia’s development.
I have made brief trips to several countries in Europe, Asia and Africa establishing public relations networks.
I am now back in Boston, working on Legal Studies. I will be graduating in May 2021. [3-21]
