At the time of his passing Don was the Director of BEPS Activity working in Indonesia as the Chief of Party of USAID’s Indonesia Decentralized Basic Education III project with Save the Children.
Before going to Indonesia, Don worked concurrently as the Director of the BEPS Activity and Deputy Director of the Education and Social Mobilization Division at Creative Associates International, Inc (CAII). Under Don’s leadership while at CAII, BEPS implemented numerous educational initiatives activities including, multi-year projects in Zambia, the Philippines, and Central America and Child Labor activities in West Africa and the Americas.
Prior to joining CAII, he served as Director of Training and Organizational Development at Save the Children/USA and was Vice President of the Institute for Training and Development (ITD) in Amherst, Massachusetts where he worked with Mark Protti the Executive Director of ITD.
He also worked with Training Resources Group (TRG) as Human Resource Development and Institutional Development Specialist, as Training Systems Development Consultant, and served as a consultant on many other projects.
While at CIE Don carried out research on cross-cultural education for transformation as the result of travel programs which are intended to raise consciousness, create empathy and change attitudes of North American middle-class participants toward the Third World poor. And, increase the likelihood that they will become active advocate for poor people’s struggles.
During his career Don lived and worked in Indonesia Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Ecuador, and Mozambique.[8-08]
