Professional Development

CIEstudents participate in a wide array of professional development activities during their degree programs. Some of these are on campus at Tuesday Dialogues or at other locations at UMass. Others involve attending national conferences, regional conferences, workshops and conferences in the region.

Theories of Change for Education in Crisis and Conflict

For the third event in the Spring 2018 speakers series, CIE welcomed Dr. Ash Hartwell and doctoral student Jennifer Flemming who presented some of the work which their CIE-team has been doing with the Education in Crisis and Conflict Network (ECCN) during the last four years.

CIE @ CIES 2018 in Mexico City

CIE was represented by more than 35 current students, graduates, and faculty members at the national CIES conference in Mexico City in March.  In addition there were faculty members and students from the Higher Education and other programs in the UMass Amherst College of Education, reflecting the strong involvement in international education of the College of Education.

Gallery Walk – Current Graduate Student Research

Each year the College of Education sponsors a Gallery Walk where graduate students present their current research activities through posters. Visitors walk through the hall where the posters are hung, pausing in front of those that spark their interest to ask questions and talk with the students who are there to explain their research. Among the presenters were two students in international education whose posters reported on research based on fieldwork in other countries

Michael Acosta Selected as Fulbright-Clinton Fellow in Kosovo

Michael Acosta received a Fulbright-Clinton Fellowship in Spring 2017 to work with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Kosovo for the coming year. His work will focus the challenges faced in integrating minority groups such as ethnic Serbs, Roma, Kosovar-Egyptians, and Ashkali into the public school system.

CIE @ CIES 2017 in Atlanta

CIE brought a strong contingent of more than 45 faculty members, graduates and current students to the national CIES conference in Atlanta, Georgia in March. In addition, there were faculty and students from the higher education program at the UMass College of Education. In total, there were well over 50 attendees related to UMass, demonstrating the strong involvement in international education at the College of Education.
