This year UMass returned to in-person graduation ceremonies. The graduate commencement honored graduates from both the 2019-20 and 2021-22 years since there was no ceremony in spring of 2020. As a result there were a much larger number of graduates – so many that the ceremony was held in the football stadium. There were more than 1,000 Master’s graduates in attendance!
After nearly 25 years since their CIE days, David McCurry, Bonnie Mullinix, Rob and Toon Fuderich andJane Benbow gathered on Mother's Day weekend (May 6-8, 2022) in Beaufort, South Carolina.
The CIE network was again well represented at the 2022 CIES conference in Minneapolis with nearly 30 CIE/IE graduates, current students and faculty members listed on the program.
In Spring 2022 Nangyalai Attal received a research grant from the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA) on behalf of its Sponsored Project Echidna Giving. The grant is intended to allow previous Echidna Global Scholars to continue their research in their home countries.
Cliff Meyers visited Amherst in December 2021 where he got together with Rob and Toon Fuderich for a meal. After many years in SE Asia, Cliff and his family are looking to relocate to the US.
Dwight W. Allen, the former Dean of the School of Education (1968-1975), passed away at the age of 90 on October 16, 2021. He was the original founder of the Center for International Education at UMass Amherst.
In 2021, ManjulaSalomon (Ed.D. 1981) and her husband Stuart established an endowment fund called the Abrams, Bing and Urch CIE Support Fund to be used to support education-related travel or professional development activities of students affiliated with CIE. The fund honors those who mentored Manjula while she was studying at CIE
