Dialogues & CIE Speaker Series

One of the hallmarks of the Center for International Education for almost 50 years has been the weekly Tuesday Dialogue of the entire community of students and faculty. The community gathers to share ideas, ask questions, debate issues, and to listen to presenters.  Sometimes the speaker is a distinguished development practitioner or well-known faculty member.  Sometimes the speaker is a CIE student or graduate who shares their work in development or recent research activity. In recent years CIE has hosted a speakers series where the larger community has been invited to join CIE for discussions.





Collaborative problem-solving: Support for early grade reading teachers in Nepal

Debuting a new Tuesday Dialogue session format that is very much in line with CIE’s participatory approaches, faculty member Cristine Smith facilitated a problem-solving activity about an issue she has been facing in an early grade reading project in Nepal.

Official opening of renovated Montague House

On Tuesday, November 29th the University held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the newly renovated Montague House as the new home for the Center for International Education. A crowd of well-wishers gathered in a tent on the lawn in front of Montague to hear the Chancellor of UMass Amherst and other speakers celebrate the occasion.
