Annual CIE Retreats

Every fall since its founding in 1968, CIE has held an overnight retreat somewhere in New England. Each retreat has a theme of current interest which we come together as a community to discuss and work on.  Retreats also provide a chance for a shared experience of working, eating and having fun together.

CIE Retreat 2015

For two days in October CIE members gathered at Angel’s Rest in the foothills of the Berkshires for their 48th annual retreat. This year the retreat had two themes: living and working in another culture, and setting goals for one’s career. The retreat featured small group work, lots of discussion, good food, and entertainment.

CIE's 47th Annual Fall Retreat - Angels Rest

CIE held its annual retreat at Angels Rest once again. The theme of this year’s retreat was Mindfulness as it applied to the academic program, work, and family contexts.  Exercises and discussion focused on the meaning of mindfulness and the ways its meaning could vary in different cultural settings.

Fall 2013 CIE Retreat

As we do every fall, students and faculty of CIE went on a two-day retreat. This year’s retreat was held at Angel’s Rest in a beautiful rural setting in the foothills of the Berkshires. The retreat combined fun with serious discussions. This year’s retreat focused on CIE’s espoused goal of producing “Scholar Practitioners” in its programs.  During  the retreat, a variety of exercises were used to help the 30 participants articulate their thoughts on the meaning of  Scholar-Practitioner and to then suggest ways in which classes, activities and colleagues could help CIE better work to develop Scholar-Practitioners.
