Anne Sikwibele

After leaving CIE, Anne earned her Ph.D. at the University of Illinois. She then embarked on a long and distinguished career in higher education in southern Africa. She held academic and leadership roles and served on various commissions relating to education policy, education technology and gender in Botswana, India, Nigeria, Zambia, South Africa, and Swaziland.

 

Her career led to her current appointment in the spring of 2022 as Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Zambia (UNZA).

 

From 1989 to 2002 she held a variety of leadership roles at the University of Zambia, beginning as a lecturer and rising through various leadership roles to serve as acting Dean of the School of Education on several occasions. From 1999 to 2002 she held the position of Senior Lecturer and Research Coordinator.

 

From 2002-2005 she was the Provincial Program coordinator for the Southern Province of Zambia of the USAID BESSIP project.  In 2005 she became a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Education of the University of Botswana.  During that period she also served as an external examiner for the University of Venda in South Africa. 

 

In the period 2009 to 2015 she held the positions of Associate Professor and as the Founding Director of the Institute of distance Education at Mulungushi University in Kabwe.  She also served as the E-Learning Coordinator for the African Union supported E-Learning Africa Network program in collaboration with Indian Universities.  Subsequently she became the Founding Dean of the School of Education at Mulungushi University.

 

From 2019 until February of 2022 she was the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Zambian Open University.

 

Anne has published extensively, as co-author of books, author of chapters, journal articles and research studies.  Her research has focused on education policy, gender and poverty, human rights, online and distance learning, and higher education in developing countries.  Her most recent publication is a forthcoming book entitled “The School Experience in Zambia: Philosophical Foundations, Benefits, Effectiveness, Challenges and Opportunities”[6-22]
