Joining CIE was a great opportunity for me. It allowed me to learn and better understand the concepts of non-formal education and be able to develop the skills to work with adults and help them improve their situation. Since getting my Master's degree from CIE, I have been involved in a variety of academic activities and programs. I have taught groups ranging from high school students to adult professionals and faculty members.
Subsequently I joined the Research and Evaluation Methods Program and received a CAGS. Later, I enrolled in the Teacher Education and School Improvement Program and completed my Ed.D. degree in 2013.
As a teacher I taught young high school adults in Springfield, MA who were from a variety of backgrounds, i.e., refugees and immigrants with little or no academic background. They presented huge challenges to the education system. I helped them to adjust and learn in and out of school by providing extracurricular support.
As an educator, I worked with the UN African Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), Sudan. My primary role was focused on training the police, the military, civilian officers, as well as security individuals. I engaged with participants to help them understand stress management and to cultivate a sense of community in what was a very stressful environment.
In recent years, I have been working as a faculty member at Imam Abdurrahman bin Faisal University (IAU) - Deanship of Academic Development (DAD) in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. I have participated in professional development for faculty members across the disciplines. Throughout my interactions here, I conducted training, workshops, lectures, and presentations. I also specialized in test assessment and development and analyzed test results. I was also a member of the committee in charge of developing a five-year strategy plan, policy, and quality assurance for the DAD. In addition, I taught an undergraduate statistics course. [4-22]
