After graduating from UMASS in 2012, I returned to Malawi and continued to work as a District Education Manager for Zomba rural District. There, I worked with Primary school Headteachers of more than 200 primary schools, overseeing the implementation of education activities at that level.
In 2015, I was promoted to Education Division Manager responsible for Central West Division. This Division has six education districts of Lilongwe rural East, Lilongwe rural West, Lilongwe Urban, Mchinji, Ntcheu and Dedza. This position involved working with Secondary School Principals in these Districts and overseeing the implementation of their education activities.
Currently, I am working as Education Division Manager for South West Division. This Division has six education Districts: Blantyre Urban, Blantyre Rural, Chikwawa, Nsanje, Mwanza and Neno. I work with the Secondary School Principals of these districts overseeing the implementation of all their education activities.
In my current role I continue to pursue my interest in how education research and evaluation can help education systems find appropriate interventions that work, especially in Malawi. I feel that poor pedagogical methods, shortage of teaching & learning materials, and ineffective educational leadership, which many African schools face, are not only the result of poverty but also of inappropriate interventions based on inadequate research and evaluation.
In addition, I have also been appointed as a member of the Malawi country team for the KIX Africa 19 Hub. The KIX Africa 19 Hub serves as a key knowledge exchange brokering mechanism for the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (KIX).
Before coming to CIE I taught science at the secondary level for six years before being promoted to District Education Officer in 1998. I came to CIE in 2001 under the Malawi project to do my Master’s degree in international education and simultaneously I was promoted in the same year to be District Education Manager. [10-20]
