Victor Smurro
Victor Smurro, CCC, is an associate instructor at the College of Culinary Arts at Johnson & Wales University's Providence Campus. He has been with the University since 1990 and spent several years at the Charleston, S.C., Campus. While there, he had a young man by the name of Tyler Florence in class. Florence, now a celebrity with shows on The Food Network and regular appearances on The Today Show, returned to J&W as the 2004 College of Culinary Arts Commencement speaker. Smurro teaches courses ranging from Foods of the World to Meat Cutting. He received the Charleston Campus’ Teacher of the Year Award twice, in 1991 and 2000. In addition to his classroom duties, Smurro owns Silver Platter Catering. Prior to joining the faculty, Smurro worked as executive sous chef at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, N.C. Previous experience includes several hotels, restaurants and casinos.
