Providing services to adult immigrants, refugees and migrants in the Pioneer Valley

Center for New Americans (CNA) provides educational and support services to adult immigrants, refugees, and migrants in the Pioneer Valley. CNA operates four sites: Amherst, Northampton, Greenfield and Turners Falls. The learners at CNA come from a variety of countries: Cape Verde, China, Congo, Mexico, Moldova, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Thailand, Tibet and Vietnam, to mention only a few. Their goals, interests and experiences are diverse.

ENGAGEMENT DETAILS: Volunteers assist teachers in class (Amherst classroom assistance is Monday-Thursday, 8:30-10:30 am), work as one-on-one tutors with individual learners for 1-2 hours a week often after class or in the afternoons, or provide administrative support in the office. College student volunteers are required to make a two-semester commitment. It is expected that volunteers will work regularly according to their agreement with the learner or teacher.
