Alcohol Retailers and Municipal Leaders Forum March 19, 2018

The Campus and Community Coalition and the Strategic Planning Initiative for Families and Youth (SPIFFY) Coalition will host a regional forum on alcoholic beverage regulation on Monday, March 19 from 9-11:30 a.m. at Old Chapel at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. 

Participants will learn about regulatory, enforcement and industry trends for alcoholic beverage retailers, municipal officials and law enforcement.

UMass, community coalition looks to Fort Collins, Colorado, program for registering off-campus parties

AMHERST — In Fort Collins, Colorado, off-campus students at Colorado State University and city residents can register parties they intend to hold on Fridays and Saturdays and holidays popular for gatherings, such as St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween and New Year’s Eve.

For those whose parties make so much noise that neighbors are bothered by the decibel level, being enrolled in this registration program can be the difference between getting a courtesy call from the city’s emergency dispatchers — allowing the party hosts to bring their event under control on their own — and being paid a visit by officers who might deliver a costly noise ticket.

With Amherst continuing to face quality-of-life issues related to University of Massachusetts students living in off-campus housing, town and university officials are discussing launching a similar pilot program in the fall.

SPIFFY Coalition and Hampshire HOPE to Host Policy Discussion on Prevention

The SPIFFY Coalition and Hampshire HOPE are joining forces to engage community leaders in the development of strategic policies that will impact youth access to alcohol, marijuana and other drugs in our local area. 

This is the first in a series of discussions designed to bring together policymakers in Hampshire County to begin the work of assessing needs and identifying next steps. D.J. Wilson from the Massachusetts Municipal Association will demonstrate how local tobacco regulations can serve as a model to prevent youth access to alcohol, marijuana and other drugs.

Route 9 Billboard Touts Work of CCC

A new billboard celebrating a long-standing campus partnership to prevent underage and dangerous drinking is greeting drivers crossing the Coolidge Bridge into Hadley.

The billboard, which went up in late October, highlights the efforts of the Campus and Community Coalition to Reduce High Risk Drinking (CCC) and bears the message “Working Together to Prevent Underage and Dangerous Drinking” with the website link for the coalition.
