Skills Employers Want

As essential as it is to build on your academic knowledge while enrolled at UMass Amherst, you will also need to build on other skills that employers are looking for when evaluating candidates to join their teams. Hiring managers at competitive companies are expecting well-rounded students that have both the technical know-how to approach challenges, as well as the interpersonal and social skills to thrive in their respective industries. The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) has surveyed employers and regularly releases a framework of competencies that these employers have highlighted as being essential for their workforce.
