Springfield Internship Program
The Springfield Internship Program is an exciting new opportunity launching in Spring 2026 for students interested in gaining real-world experience while building professional skills. Through partnerships with a variety of employers in the Springfield area, this program offers meaningful, hands-on internships that connect to your academic and career goals. Throughout the process, you’ll have access to campus support, including resume help, information sessions, and guidance from the Career Hub to ensure you feel confident and prepared. About the Springfield Internship Program
Program Overview
- Open to students from all academic majors
- Paid Internships
- Hours per-week vary by employer
- Ability to earn academic credit for the internships
- 40 hours = 1 credit
- Academic work required
- Transportation provided from UMass Amherst to Springfield
- Opportunities across a variety of industries and employers
Requirements to Participate
- Completed at least 45 credits at the time of the internship, and have a minimum 2.0 GPA
- Be a current undergraduate student
- Submit a Student Application Form, which includes attaching a:
- Resume
- Statement of interest
- Meet with a program liaison after submitting your application
- Able to commit to internship hours as determined by the host employer
Program Overview
The Springfield Internship Program is designed to strengthen and expand partnerships between the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the City of Springfield business community. Employer partners gain direct access to a diverse pipeline of UMass Amherst students who are eager to learn, contribute, and apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings.
The program prioritizes:

Capacity-building support for organizations through student involvement in ongoing projects, research, operations, and innovative initiatives

Interns can assist with day-to-day operations, contribute fresh perspectives, and help advance projects that may be delayed due to capacity
Employer Requirements
To ensure a high-quality experience for both students and employers, participating organizations are expected to:

Business located in the city of Springfield

Provide a structured, hands-on internship experience with clearly defined responsibilities

Designate a supervisor to guide, support, and provide feedback to the intern

Commit to regular check-ins with the intern throughout the internship
