Nestled on the first floor of the Fieldstone residential building (345 Lincoln Avenue; entrance on Mass Avenue), our bouldering haven stands as a testament to vertical adventure. Ascend heights of up to 14 feet and explore a diverse array of climbs meticulously tailored to cater to climbers of every skill level.
Discover a realm primed for personal growth and shared moments of camaraderie with friends. Be it your first or 50th visit to a climbing gym, our facility promises a space that nurtures both challenge and connection.
Indulge in the warmth of community at our lounge area, complete with a comforting fireplace. As day transitions to night, our outdoor courtyard beckons, adorned with inviting fire pits that cast a mesmerizing glow, perfect for those balmy evenings that invite you to linger.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:
- Ascend is an age restricted facility - participants must be age 18. However, ALL Undgergraduates with access to the Recreation Center also have access to Ascend.
- Any with a UMass Amherst Recreation Membership has access to Ascend.
- Use of the Climbing wall is FREE to all UMass Amherst undergraduates.
- Currently, guest passes are not available or allowed.
- All climbers will have to take a one-time, basic orientation before using the facility.
- This orientation will provide climbers with the know-how to access the space, info regarding our policies and procedures, safety tips, and the best ways to connect with our community and meet our RecWell staff!
All climbers must complete the climbing orientation regardless of their climbing experience.
HOURS
Sunday - Thursday: 11 a.m. - 11 p.m.
Friday & Saturday: 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.
ORIENTATION
Orientation will be available on the hour, every hour during hours of operation.
EQUIPMENT POLICIES
Climbing equipment can be checked out by all climbers who are active RecWell members, and who have completed the one-time orientation. Present your valid UCard to our RecWell staff to check out the equipment you may need.
All climbing equipment must remain in the climbing area and is due back before the facility closes. No overnight rental of equipment allowed.
