Fall 2020 Bills
The University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees has approved fees for the Fall 2020/Spring 2021 academic year. See all Fall 2020-Spring 2021 Tuition and Fees.
Your Fall 2020 charges are available to view in our SPIRE system effective July 29, 2020. Your eBill is also available to view effective 7/29/2020. Please note that eBills are at a specific point in time (static) while viewing your student charges in SPIRE are real-time. The due date for the Fall 2020 bills has been extended to September 7, 2020.
As a student, you can invite others to have access to your student account as an Authorized Payer. Authorized Payers are able to view the eBill, make payment and set up a payment plan, view class schedule, etc. As the student, you control what others have access to see or not see.
Student records are confidential and protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Students may elect to set up a FERPA Privacy Waiver to allow parents, guardians or other third parties to obtain information about their Bursar bill, Financial Aid and Housing. We will not disclose information to anyone who has not been designated by the student in their FERPA waiver.
UMass Amherst offers several Payment Options to pay your tuition bill. If you would like to pay each semester’s expenses in full, the Fall and Spring semester charges are due before the start of each semester (August 21st for Fall and January 10th for Spring). We also offer a no interest installment Payment Plan which allows families to pay 5 monthly installments for each semester. Important note: during the current pandemic, the use of cash as a payment method is discouraged.
Refunds due to excess Financial Aid or an Overpayment
Should you have a credit balance on your student account due to an overpayment or excess financial aid, we will issue an electronic refund to you usually within 2 to 3 weeks depending on the type of refund and the time of year. Please sign up for Excess Express direct deposit program to facilitate your refund.
Massachusetts state law requires all students be enrolled in a student health insurance program that meets the comparable benefits established by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. UMass Amherst automatically bills all matriculated undergraduate students for the University’s health insurance plan. Please refer to the University Health Services Student Insurance for more information.
If you have comparable health insurance coverage, you are eligible to waive the school’s insurance. Please read the instructions noted under Waiving the Student Health Benefit Plan (Insurance) for assistance with processing your waiver request.
If you have not processed your waiver request by September 7, 2020, you will be enrolled in the University’s health insurance plan for the academic year. You will incur the cost of the insurance plan even if you have other coverage.
Bursar Office Hours and Drop-Box
As Chancellor Subbaswamy has noted in his opening plan, the number of staff on campus will be limited for Fall 2020 in an effort to de-densify. As a result our business hours and services have changed. Please see Bursar Office Hours and Contact Information for office hours and drop-box details.
