Tertiary Extensions provide a standardized identity for academic and nonacademic units while maintaining a clear connection to the UMass Amherst brand.
Academic departments, programs, and offices are identified through their relationship to their school or college, supporting a consistent academic hierarchy.
Nonacademic offices, centers, institutes, initiatives, and other business units are represented independently when a distinct organizational identity supports their business and communication needs.
Requesting a Tertiary Extension
Requests for new Tertiary Extensions should be submitted to Marcom. Approval is not automatic and will be evaluated based on strategic need, audience requirements, longevity, and alignment with the university's brand architecture.
