A mass communications email is a message with primarily the same content or purpose that is sent to 100 or more recipients or is a repetitive communication sent to a particular group. A thoughtful approach to mass communications can help your emails land in inboxes, engage audiences, and meet your campaign goals.
Our Communications Platform
UMass Amherst’s primary digital communications platform is Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
Don’t have access to Salesforce Marketing Cloud? You may not need access to this tool.
- If you’re only sending emails occasionally, consider requesting an email send from our team. Request an email.
- Microsoft Teams or Google Groups can be a great alternative if you are trying to engage a limited group of faculty, staff, or students.
- Still think you need access to Marketing Cloud? This tool requires approval training before you can have access. Request a license.
Rules / Usage Guidelines
Platform Usage & Approval Process
UMass Amherst uses two distinct Salesforce Marketing Cloud platforms to ensure messages reach the right people, with the right content, at the right time:
- One managed by University Relations (UR)
- One managed by the UMass Amherst Foundation (UMAF)
Each platform serves different audiences and communication goals, and both maintain accurate data and respect constituent preferences. To protect the integrity of our outreach, other broadcast systems should not be used.
Use the guidance below to determine the appropriate platform and approval pathway for your message.
