Erika Kovalski (Biology/Honors class of 2022), did a project in Dr. Steven D. Brewer's Honors Thesis Seminar (Open Science Instrumentation and Data Collection) to studying using newly-developed UV-C LEDs for sterilizing cell-phones. She continued to develop her idea after graduation at Baystate Medical Center as an Anesthesia Technician. Her project has been developed into an approach to sterilize surgical equipment during spaceflight and has been published in Aerospace Medicine and Human Performance:
