Lila M. Gierasch, Distinguished Professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, was elected into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences along with 213 of the world’s most accomplished scholars, scientists, writers, artists and civic, business and philanthropic leaders.
The Academy was founded in the year 1780 as both an honorary society that recognizes and celebrates the excellence of its members, and as an independent research center convening leaders from across disciplines, professions, and perspectives to address significant challenges.
