Accreditation by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), a leading professional society in the molecular life sciences, means that the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department can offer our majors the opportunity to take the ASBMB proficiency exam as they near completion of their undergraduate studies. With a high score on the ASBMB exam, students can earn a national credential to add to their resumes.
Overall, approximately 930 undergraduates completing their degrees at more than 70 ASBMB-accredited programs across the country took the ASBMB Exam this year. Of the students taking the exam nationally, 31% scored in the top category, “Mastery”, and 32% scored in the next highest category, “Proficiency”. Here at UMass, students may choose whether to take the exam, and we are pleased to announce that 16 BMB majors have achieved high scores: 7 BMB majors earned scores of “Mastery”, and another 9 BMB majors earned scores of “Proficiency”. We congratulate these students on their accomplishment!
